My World Tuesday

Munkholmen (Norwegian, meaning the monk's islet) is an islet north of TrondheimNorway in the Trondheimsfjord. The islet has served as a place of execution, a monastery, a fortress, prison, and a World War II anti-aircraft gun station. Today, Munkholmen is a popular tourist attraction and recreation site. I captured this  from a helicopter back in May 2005.

For more information about Munkholmen, go to wikipedia.

  1. I can see why this is a popular attraction, its very beautiful and it can be a "get away" from the mainland, so to speak.

Are there lodgings for overnight guests?

  2. Wow how beautiful photo. I've been in Trondheim once. The whole north Norway is extremely beautiful for all those mountains, valleys and fjords! Love it, love your pic!

  4. That is so beautiful. It's amazing that somewhere that peaceful looking would have the history that it does with executions.

  5. I'd visit if I were a tourist in the area. Is helicopter the only way to get there?

PS: Jeg glemte å sette Norge bak navnet mitt. Beklager så mye. Er det mulig for deg å legge det til eller?

  15. Things look a lot different from high above. I like to see what the birds get to see but don't get in a plane that often.

  34. this reminds me of Ft. Macon, near where I took my TMW shot this week. Except that Ft. Macon isn't nearly as old and has only served as a military installation in its active career.

This almost appears to have been mad-made, but the land bridge makes me think it wasn't. I'll have to go check out the Wiki article.

    Awesome photo in any case!
